Valheim guide: Where to find silver

Unlike metals in Valheim like bronze and iron, finding silver takes a bit of work. While you can eventually find iron veins containing silver ore, locating them isn’t as simple as keeping your eyes peeled. It’ll require some tough combat and a bit of exploring.

In this Valheim guide, we’ll show you how to find silver. The process is slightly more complicated than finding ore deposits for other metals. Not only that, but to find silver easily, you must beat Bonemass, the third boss in Valheim.

How to find silver in Valheim

If you want to find silver, you’ll have to defeat one of the most challenging bosses in the game, Bonemass. If you’re struggling to take down the gelatinous behemoth, you’re not alone. The item description for the wishbone says that “This ancient bone remembers the location of many forgotten things.” With the item equipped, text will appear informing you that you can now “sense hidden things.” Your raven pal Hugin will also tell you that the wishbone can help you locate silver veins and buried treasure.

To find silver, you’ll need to head to a mountain biome with the wishbone active. The mountain biomes cause the freezing effect, which is deadly. So before heading into the mountains, brew some frost resistance mead.

When the wishbone is equipped and working, an icon will appear on your screen. As you get closer to a silver vein or a chest that might contain it, you’ll hear a ping and see a green glowing lines emanating from your body. Use these cues to explore areas that may contain silver. As you get closer so silver, the ping will become higher pitched, and the flashing will become more frequent.

If you encounter a chest with silver, then you’re in luck. Open it and grab your treasure. If you happen upon a silver vein, you won’t find any clues that you’re standing above one.

Once you’ve found a location where the pings from the wishbone are at their most intense, grab your pickaxe and start digging. If you’re in the right spot, you’ll eventually uncover a silver vein.

Once you find silver deposits, make sure to mark the map in case you need to revisit this spot. With your silver ore in hand, process it like any other metal to make iron armor and weapons.
