Final Fantasy XIV Live Letter 76 Summary; Patch 6.4 "The Dark Throne" releases late May 2023

In the 76th Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, Final Fantasy XIV director/producer Naoki Yoshida and global community manager Toshio Murouchi shared the first but lengthy round of information on the upcoming Patch 6.4, along with other information including what’s to come in Patch 6.38, which will be releasing Tuesday, April 4.

What’s to Come in Patch 6.38

  • Releases Tuesday, April 4.
  • Pandaemonium: Abyssos (Savage) weekly restriction removed.
  • PvP action adjustments.
  • Crystalline Conflict season 6 will begin.
  • NA data center hardware replacement will commence.

Patch 6.4 “The Dark Throne”

  • Releases late May 2023.
  • Includes new main scenario quests.
  • Patch 6.4 will continue the main scenario quest. Pictured are Krile, Erenville, and Zero.
  • The next chapter of Tataru’s Grand Endeavor will commence. Pictured are Gaius and Allie following ‘The Sorrows of Werlyt’ scenario.
  • ‘Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures’ will continue. The inspector(?) takes on a grape-like visage.
  • The Hildibrand story will continue in 6.45, as will the next phase of the Manderville Weapon enhancement quests. Godbert and Gerolt are pictured in Radz-at-Han. Splendorous Tool enhancement quests will follow Grenoldt and Mowen in the Crystarium’s Crystalline Mean.
  • A new dungeon will be added in Patch 6.4: ‘The Aetherfont’. Yoshida comments that polar bears make him think of MMORPGs, maybe due to Ultima Online.
  • The buildings pictured in the Aetherfont have a Sharlayan flair.
  • A new trial will be added in Patch 6.4: ‘The Voidcast Dais’. An Extreme version will be added. In this trial you will face Golbez.
  • A new Unreal Trial will replace the currently running one. Prepare to face Zurvan, who appeared in ‘The Warring Triad’ scenario that released following the Heavensward expansion.
  • Pandæmonium: Anabaseios will be the third and final tier of the eight-player raid. The Savage difficulty version will be released one week after the launch of Patch 6.4.
  • The second Variant & Criterion dungeon will be released in Patch 6.45: ‘Mount Rokkon’. There will be three levels of difficulty: Normal, Criterion, and Criterion (Savage). You won’t need to complete the Sil’dihn Subterrane to unlock this dungeon.
  • Duty Support will expand to include Stormblood dungeons: The Sirensong Sea, Bardam’s Mettle, Doma Castle, Castrum Abania, and Ala Mhigo. This feature allows NPCs to accompany you into story dungeons in lieu of other players.
  • Gosetsu, Hien, and an au ra conjurer join the Warrior of Light. It’s seems they’ve passed Bardam’s test…
  • Adjustments will be applied to PvE and PvP jobs – more info in the next letter likely.
  • PvP Series 4 will begin, as will Season 7. Frontline will have a new UI element that will display the match time and score. Rules for The Fields of Glory (Shatter) will be adjusted. The Borderland Ruins (Secure) will be temporarily unavailable.
  • Blue Mage’s next update will arrive in Patch 6.45. The level cap will increase from 70 to 80, alongside new spells and BLU exclusive gear. New enemies will be added to the Masked Carnivale.
  • Ocean fishing will get an update where you can voyage to waters outside Kugane and the Ruby Sea.
  • Island Sanctuary will be updated with new ranks and visions. A new gathering area will be added in the wilds and new construction plots will be added in the hideaway.
  • Further Island Sanctuary additions: new item rewards, materials, craftable items, crops, animals, islework handicrafts, and structures will be added.
  • Support for outdoor furnishings will be added to the hideaway. Furnishings can be placed near structures, and a maximum of 90 slots can be unlocked via Island Sanctuary progress.
  • Note that special furnishings like striking dummies and gardens will not be supported in the Island Sanctuary. A demo on how to place these will be shown off in the next Letter.
  • A new tier of tomestones will be added: ‘Allagan tomestones of comedy’.
  • The maximum number of gear sets will be increased to 100; available to all characters immediately, regardless of quest progression.
  • Job icons will now be displayed in the chat log and on player nameplates. (Chat log icons will only display within parties and alliances.)
  • The transaction fee for items sold on the market board can now be incorporated into their total prices, displayed under “Total.”
  • Glasses and wing fashion accessories will now display when engaged in battle in the overworld.
  • Items stored in a variety of locations can now be selected when casting glamours in an in room.
  • Fairy glamours are now available to scholars where you can select from Eos, Selene, or Carbuncle.
  • We’ll get more information about the game’s graphics update planned for the expansion at the North American Fan Festival in July.

Announcements

  • Official Merchandise Round 1 will commence in all regions. Be advised that for those attending in Las Vegas, congestion may occur at the event, so it’s best to pre-order merchandise. Once items are sold out, they can’t guarantee they’ll be restocked, some are exclusive to NA.
  • Fan Festival merchandise pre-orders begin Friday, March 31 @ 9:00am PDT to April 21 at 11:59pm PDT. Delivery is scheduled to begin July 14, ahead of the Fan Festival.
  • Europe is scheduled from Friday, March 31 at 1600 GMT/1700 BST. to April 21 at 2259 GMT/2359 BST. Delivery is planned for July 28 onward.
  • ‘Flocked Figurine – Loporrit’ will be available for pre-order.
  • ‘Portly Porxie Plushie’ will be available for pre-order.
